New ballet production “Carnage and the Divine” inspired by “Eugene Onegin”

From 29 July to 1 August 2026, the Royal Opera House presents a powerful new ballet by acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan. Carnage and the Divine is a contemporary reimagining of Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin , told through Khan’s poetic and expressive movement language. The piece is not a literal retelling but a visceral meditation on unrequited love, innocence lost, and longing. Created in collaboration with dancers of The Royal Ballet, guest performers, and an international creative team, this production promises to be a haunting and abstract journey into the emotional heart of a literary classic.
