BBC Proms 2026: Russian Classics in Bristol

On August 8, BBC Proms 2026 heads to Bristol Beacon with a programme dedicated to Russian orchestral music of the 20th century. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will perform under conductor Adam Hickox, joined by cellist Maximilian Hornung. The evening includes Shostakovich’s sharp-edged and virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1 alongside his exuberant Festive Overture . Sofia Gubaidulina’s whimsical Fairy-Tale Poem adds a touch of fantasy, while Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances closes the concert with sweeping rhythms and bittersweet nostalgia.
